At 161 days, Sheamus’ run was far longer than any of our previous entrants’, but truth be told it was hardly much more eventful.

Much of it was spent in a back-and-forth feud with Randy Orton that was never going to set the world alight, as the two traded wins at Battleground and SummerSlam. He then formed the League of Nations faction, though the group eventually degenerated into fodder for Roman Reigns, before losing to Cesaro in the opening round of a 16-man tournament to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Survivor Series 2015.

Luckily for Sheamus, he still had that Money in the Bank contract up his sleeve, and it proved to be his ‘Get Out Of Jail Free’ card. At the end of that tournament, and with the confetti still falling, he cashed in on Reigns, the eventual winner, to make for a dramatic conclusion that just about atoned for the pedestrian months that had preceded it.
