It never made much sense for WWE to bring back Matt Bloom as an in-ring competitor in 2012, because by that point, it was evident he wasn't going to get above a certain level.

Once his push as Lord Tensai was cut short, he was largely utilized as an undercard act before becoming a full-time commentator on NXT in early 2014. It was unknown how he would fare in the role, but as Jason Albert, he did exceptionally well.

He was never known to be a tremendous talker during his time in the ring, but then again, he was never given the chance. As a seasoned veteran in the business, he was able to bring his experience to the announcer's table and find good chemistry alongside the likes of Rich Brennan and Corey Graves. They were a fun, incredibly underrated trio during their time together.

Albert eventually stepped away from NXT to replace Bill DeMott as the head trainer down in developmental. As a result, morale has apparently been higher than ever before. There are those who do miss his commentary work, though.
