5. Rich Brennan

It would have been relatively easy for Rich Brennan to follow in the footsteps of Tony Dawson by being just another announcer on NXT before being let go shortly thereafter. He was an unknown when he arrived on the scene in late 2014, but what separated him from Dawson was that he had experience as a wrestling play-by-play commentator, previously calling the action for Booker T's Reality of Wrestling promotion.

Thus, he was a step ahead of his predecessors when he debuted in NXT and settled into his new role quite nicely. Sure, he wasn't the most charismatic commentator of all-time, but he had a clear knowledge of and passion for the pro wrestling business. If he didn't, he wouldn't have lasted roughly two years down in developmental.

He was a suitable replacement for Tom Phillips when he got called up to SmackDown, calling his fair share of TakeOver events and gelling well with Corey Graves throughout 2015 and 2016. Brennan could have been a valuable asset on Raw or SmackDown had he not been released from the company last spring.
