Ranking Every WWE NXT Commentator From Worst To Best

4. Tom Phillips

Tom Phillips may not have been a part of NXT's original commentary team (that honor is held by Jim Ross and William Regal), yet he is more synonymous with NXT's announce team than anyone else in the promotion's five year history.

As previously noted, Brad Maddox was a pretty poor commentator in the time he served behind the booth from late 2012 to mid-2013, so Phillips' NXT stint was already off to a less-than-stellar start working with him. Thankfully, he came into his own as an announcer rather quickly and established an identity for himself as NXT's most trusted voice.

Phillips is far from flashy on the headset, but he doesn't need to be. He is genuinely likeable guy who pays attention to the action, doesn't stumble over his words, and has good chemistry with basically everyone he has worked with. He and Corey Graves were perhaps the best pairing NXT's commentary team has ever had, and the synergy between those two was untouchable.

In recent years, Phillips has gone back and forth between calling the action on NXT and SmackDown Live, and was most recently named the "host" of the blue brand. It's a rather worthless title, admittedly, but NXT's commentary team would be in deep trouble without him at the moment.
