1. Royal Rumble

Drew McIntyre Royal Rumble Win

The best of 2020 generally? Not quite.

That award must go to January's thunderous Royal Rumble card, and there are several reasons for this. First up is the fact that the Rumble has occasionally wobbled as a 'Mania season launching point over the past decade or so. It's clear that WWE struggle to live up to the weight of history, but they absolutely did this year.

Drew McIntyre's emotional win was greeted with delight by Minute Maid Park's huge crowd - that was never guaranteed, but speaks to the popularity of the big Scot. He managed to avoid Roman Reigns-like boos despite Edge's tear-soaked, heart-pounding comeback and all the other bells and whistles WWE produced to keep people guessing who would come out on top.

That 30-man match, one of the best Rumbles ever, wasn't the only thing worth seeing. WWE's women had another fine Rumble of their own earlier (the closing sequence was top notch), Becky Lynch vs. Asuka was great, Daniel Bryan gave Bray Wyatt's 'Fiend' his best match to date and Reigns vs. 'King' Corbin made good use of the 'Falls Count Anywhere' stip.

It was all about that atmosphere though. The Rumble in Houston had one of the best, and the action backed it up. This was a big return to form for an old fave.
