Royal Rumble Decade
WWE

The first Royal Rumble of the past decade was a very exciting one, with returns and memorable moments throughout the main event.

This event saw Rey Mysterio hold his own against The Undertaker, with a fantastic performance demonstrating how talented Mysterio is. Also, the seeds were sown for the eventual dissension of Legacy - Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr's faction - due to Rhodes' attack on Sheamus costing Orton his shot at the WWE Championship.

Impressive performances from established stars were not enough to save this entire pay-per-view, however, as a disturbing angle involving body-shaming between Mickie James and LayCool demonstrated a clear disinterest in the women's division at the time, as well as an underwhelming United States Championship match between MVP and The Miz.

Energy levels around the Philips Arena were beginning to drop until the Royal Rumble match began. After Dolph Ziggler and Evan Bourne entered the ring, the match began to pick up steam. At number three, CM Punk entered and eliminated both men, before proceeding to run down every member of the WWE roster and claim to be better than everyone in the arena. This demonstration of Punk's natural ability was a display of his charisma and potential that would carry him into the next three years as a top-level superstar.

As the match wore on, the WWE Universe had already seen their fair share of memorable moments: Beth Phoenix eliminated The Great Khali and D-Generation X wiped out everyone in their path, but no-one was prepared for the 29th entrant. The 'Rated-R Superstar' came out to a thundering roar of support from the WWE Universe, as his music hit and he returned after six months away from the ring.

Edge made a beeline for Chris Jericho - his former best friend - in order to make a statement and prove that he was one of the best in professional wrestling. The 'Ultimate Opportunist' stormed to the ring to a shower of cheers and proved that sometimes, WWE can send their fans home happy after a major pay-per-view.
