As mentioned ahead, when The Hardy Boyz left SmackDown, their absence left a massive hole in the tag team division. The lack of proper units compelled WWE to use Monday night RAW's tag team The Usos in a random match against Daniel Bryan and Rowan to crown the heels as the new champs.

The Planet's Champions had the responsibility of breathing new life into this department. Luckily, the duo saved the division from dying.

WWE continued its 50/50 booking trend and allowed Jimmy and Jey Uso to pin the new champs in a strange non-title bout at the Money in the Bank kick-off show. However, Vince McMahon used the champs correctly later as he inserted them in a rivalry with Heavy Machinery. The heel pair emerged victorious in their first title defense. Bryan and Rowan talked trash and irritated the audience, while also delivering a 'Go Green' message. Bryan used the former Wyatt Family member as his insurance policy. This unit proved to be a heel version of Heath Slater and Rhyno.

For a moment, it looked like there would finally be new faces in this department, but WWE brought The New Day back to the title scene once again. Big E and Xavier Woods captured the gold in a triple threat bout at Extreme Rules and became four-time SmackDown tag team champions. Bryan and Rowan's transitional reign helped the division regain relevance, but this alliance could have done greater things if they received a more prolonged regime.
