Ranking Every WWE Title Change On Raw
9. Edge Def. Rob Van Dam And John Cena (3 July 2006)
This title change was, in many ways, bittersweet. On the one hand, it was great to see Edge, a man whose first title reign was cut short after a month because of WWE's insistence on having John Cena versus Triple H headline WrestleMania 22, get another run with the top belt.
On the other, it was of course desperately disappointing that Rob Van Dam, after such an incredible title victory at One Night Stand the previous month, saw his dream run cut short after just 22 days (something from which ECW as a brand perhaps never recovered).
For once, you can't really point the finger of blame at Vince McMahon here. RVD had been busted for possession of recreational drugs, and given the company's "no tolerance" policy on wellness violations, they were left with little choice but to punish him in a very public way.
Let's just focus on how great it was that Edge got a proper run with the belt, became Monday Night Raw's resident super-villain alongside girlfriend Lita, and at last established himself as the main event-tier wrestler many of us had been screaming about for the previous five years.
