7. Triple H Def. Mankind (23 August 1999)
The first of Triple H's 14 world title victories came on Raw is War in August 1999, when The Game beat Mankind in a match officiated by a member of the McMahon family, giving us a visual metaphor for the next decade of WWE television.
To be fair, there was no doubt that HHH deserved to get his hands on wrestling's biggest prize. After brilliant upper mid-card feuds with The Rock and Kane over the preceding 12 months, he more than earned his spot at the top of the card.
As for the reign itself, it's probably fair to say that he's had much better. The belt was around Mr. Stephanie McMahon's waist for three weeks before he was beaten by his future father-in-law on an episode of SmackDown.
This victory did, however, serve as the catalyst for what is arguably his greatest ever feud, with Mick Foley (now as Cactus Jack) at the beginning of the following year, including that incredibly violent Street Fight at the Royal Rumble.
