Acting as one of the most successful giants ever to maraud around a wrestling ring throughout his near-thirty-year run in the business, that still couldn't change the fact that AEW's signing of Paul Wight back in February 2021 after leaving his long-time home of WWE was seen as a rather bizarre development by most.
For the most part, it was pretty tough to imagine how the former Big Show would fit into a landscape not exactly known for accommodating slow-moving monsters. And with the former WCW man not exactly being a proven commodity on the mic, his role as one of Dark: Elevation's new commentators didn't exactly fill fans with optimism either.
And in the time since his on-screen debut, it's hard to class Wight's few showings in-between the ropes and stints at the announce desk as anything but disappointing. But perhaps a reported return to "Captain Insano" territory can at least give him an interesting reason for existing in the AEW landscape in the coming months...
