Ranking Every WWE WrestleMania Main Event - From Worst To Best
1. Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns (WrestleMania 40, Night 2)
The brilliance of the match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship that closed WrestleMania 40 is in just how much storytelling went into one match. The head of the most successful family dynasty in wrestling history achieving one of the greatest title runs of all time VS a man who'd left WWE against his will, found his greatness, and returned to the promised land to fulfill the legacy of his father by finally capturing the championship he had craved his entire life. Cinema, as the kids say.
The match itself captured everything great about Roman Reigns excellent title reign. The Bloodline, who were so regularly responsible for preserving Reigns's championship status, were able to legally interfere on his behalf due to the Bloodline Rules stipulation that had been earned by The Rock and Reigns defeating Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins the previous evening.
What this unlocked was a blockbuster finale that included run-ins from all of Reigns' usual cohorts, including The Rock, but also an ensemble cast of avengers. John Cena returned, The Undertaker thwarted The Final Boss, and Reigns's obsession with an interfering Seth Rollins cost him the big one. Cody finished his story as Dusty smiled from the heavens. This is WrestleMania's greatest finale, and it's going to take something generational to ever replace it.
