The SmackDown Women's Championship has been in a state of flux for the better part of 2019.

Asuka largely laid low as champion in the first three months of the year before Charlotte Flair took it off her hands for a brief period ahead of WrestleMania 35. While the title was indeed defended in the main event of the Show of Shows, it was hardly the focal point. Rather, the Raw Women's Championship was the real prize worth fighting for in that historic bout.

Becky Lynch picked up the gold at 'Mania, but again, it was simply another accessory for her to wear around her waist. She dropped the strap in her first televised title defense at Money in the Bank to Flair, who then immediately lost it to Bayley via a Money in the Bank cash-in.

In short, the title has had a lot of different owners so far in 2019, but Bayley has easily been the best booked champion to date. She has taken a lot of pride in holding the gold and feels fresher than she ever has before.

Considering a Raw wrestler (Alexa Bliss) is about to challenge for it at Stomping Grounds and Flair remains in the title hunt, it's safe to say the SmackDown Women's Championship is a hotter commodity now than it's been in a while.
