Ranking The Subsequent Success Of Every NXT Champion
16. American Alpha
American Alpha have been split by the storyline revelation that Jason Jordan is Kurt Angle's son, but it is still too early to judge him and Chad Gable on their own merits as of yet.
The circumstances in which they first came together were fantastic. Jordan, a cocky heel that had done nothing in his three years on the brand, lost match after match with different partners. Gable repeatedly pestered for an opportunity to tag with him, only to be turned down each time. After several months they finally came together and immediately clicked. Any match involving them instantly became a technical masterclass.
The duo won the tag titles at Takeover: Dallas, going to war with The Revival in the process. Their quick loss of them back to Dash and Dawson suggested a call-up was imminent, and Gable and Jordan's early position in the 2016 draft seemed to indicate that big things were on the horizon. Despite a Smackdown Tag Title reign, nothing ever seemed to get the main roster crowds interested in them, however, with the two given little opportunity to develop their characters outside of being 'excellent wrestlers'. Jordan seems to be quickly floundering at Angle's side, whilst Gable's new tag team with Shelton Benjamin could sink or swim.
Both men have huge sources of untapped potential, but how patient will the company be in their attempts to make use of it?
