In an entertaining reversal of the previous year's event, The Undertaker's World Title match at WrestleMania XXIV beat Royal Rumble winner John Cena's to the main event slot - the only difference was that this time, it was the right choice.

The year-long feud between 'The Deadman' and Edge was, by far, the best in SmackDown history as it took a number of twists and turns over the months, including separate injuries for both men that put each of them out of action. But nothing would stop the animosity from boiling over as Edge's consistent schemes to rob The Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship resulted in the rivalry hitting a crescendo at the Showcase of The Immortals as 'Taker sought to reclaim the gold Edge robbed him of a year earlier.

That crescendo didn't disappoint. A quietly entertaining match that adopted a unique approach, it saw the Rated-R Superstar utilise his opportunistic ways to counter his veteran opponent at every turn, and this was highly effective in making us believe that Edge might become the one to do the unthinkable.

These two would strike gold multiple times throughout 2008, but it's hard to even talk about those contests without thinking of this one. A bout worth the months of hype, it once again proved that the 'Taker was capable of hanging with much younger opponents on such a huge stage. And the overall story was so well-told that his championship celebration at the end of the show was perhaps the most satisfying in 'Mania history.

Who needs a Royal Rumble win when you've a year of animosity to work with instead?
