Ranking The Undertaker’s 27 WWE WrestleMania Matches From Worst To Best
4. Vs. CM Punk - WrestleMania 29
Paul Bearer's untimely death saw WWE pay him the ultimate tribute by featuring his legacy on the Grandest Stage of Them All, as CM Punk attempted to use the tragic event to get inside the head of WrestleMania opponent The Undertaker. And this led to some unexpectedly cutting-edge Attitude Era-like promos in the build up to the event.
Given 'The Phenom's track record at the previous six 'Manias, expectations were always going to be high for this one, and the added realism of Punk's mind games made it seem like WWE really were setting him up to end The Streak. None of that, however, could have prepared us for the classic that ensued.
Working incredibly well together, the two superstars told an unforgettable story on that night as crafty Punk was willing to do whatever it took to topple his opponent, and WWE's 'Grim Reaper of Justice' would stop at nothing to hurt Punk for disrespecting the memory of Paul Bearer. And that paved the way for some incredible moments, including Punk's clever heat-drawing Old School attempt and the Elbow Drop on the table.
While many like to praise Punk for supposedly 'carrying 'Taker' through the match, let's not forget that this was an Undertaker used to delivering five-star classics (even on a part-time basis), so he knew exactly what he needed to do in order to make it happen again. And he successfully wound the clock back one more time, as the pair went out of their way to produce a real treat that had the 80,000 fans screaming with appreciation.
Expectation-defying in every way imaginable, it was an incredible final match for The Streak, while 'Taker's victory was a fitting tribute to the legendary Paul Bearer.
