Ranking Tommaso Ciampa's 10 Greatest NXT Matches

NXT put on some incredible tag team matches in its time, but few come so close to perfection as this one. It’s not too surprising given the personnel involved, but what these two teams achieve in about 22 minutes is quite incredible. It’s a two out of three falls match that never feels rushed, tells such a cohesive story, delivers catharsis at the end, and is wrestled perfectly at every moment.

The Revival are the ostensible heels, but the tricks they turn to are those of a pairing who understand what tag wrestling is all about. They lay in a few extra shots when the ref’s not looking, they break up any attempt for DIY to gain momentum. They grab the first fall with the Shatter Machine.

The second fall is mostly one big heat spot on Gargano, whose hot tag to Ciampa is missed by the ref. Finally after a gutsy performance he brings Tommaso in, and the faces hit their tag finisher to even things up.

The final fall is just sublime. Each team attempts the other’s finisher, The Revival to no avail, DIY successfully. The room is electric and the pace relentless. Finally, Ciampa and Gargano catch Dash and Dawson in twin submissions. The Revival urge, beseech each other not to tap, the tension builds - and both submit at once. It’s a joyous moment, even with the knowledge that the group isn’t long for the world.
