Ranking What Was REALLY The Best Wrestling PPV Every Year 1990-2020
20. 2001 - WWF WrestleMania X-Seven
A greatest hits set played live, except, thrillingly, we'd never actually heard those hits yet, this was the end -and the very best of - WWE's vaunted Attitude Era.
Opposite ends of the à la mode brawling spectrum bookended what was to that point the greatest wrestling show ever promoted: the goofy, banter hijinks of the golf cart chase between Raven, Kane and the Big Show contrasted with the violently electric, epic drama of Steve Austin Vs. The Rock. If not quite the very biggest nor the very best match Vince McMahon ever promoted, no match better intersected those two ideals.
Bravura technical showcases; exhilarating stunt shows; deliriously entertaining only-in-WWE McMahon melodrama: WrestleMania X-Seven was a level beyond triumph.
There was one well-worn crowdpleaser, in the form of the winning Gimmick Battle Royal. Endearingly sh*tty, and called by Bobby Heenan in top form, this was the WWF embracing its gloriously rich history to add one final brushstroke to a time capsule masterpiece.
