Much like the aforementioned 2010 instalment, Extreme Rules 2009 was filled with a litany of stipulations. Unlike in 2010 though, the execution here was rather better.

The main event was pretty exceptionala ladder match between Edge and Jeff Hardy. As two of the greatest innovators of all time, neither man disappointed this time out, with a massive broken ladder spot thrown in for good measure.

Tommy Dreamer also got his moment in the sun, winning an entertaining hardcore match against Christian and Jack Swagger to finally recapture that ECW Championship. And Chris Jericho€™s No Holds Barred win over Rey Mysterio featured one of the more creative finishes in recent history.

But the show was by no means perfect; John Cena vs. the Big Show in a submission match was never going to set the world alight. And as great as Batista vs. Randy Orton in a cage match for the WWE Championship may sound, at just seven minutes long this this meeting was cut criminally short (potentially due to an injury on Batista€™s part).

I€™ve also got to mention the match that marred this showthe infamous Handicap Hog Pen match pitting Santina Marella against Vickie and Chavo Guerrero. I guess it€™s out of the ordinary but again, I€™m not sure that this was the kind of extreme action that fans had in mind heading into the show.
