Real Reason William Regal Can Quit AEW For WWE
Three-year contract or no three-year contract, here's why William Regal can jump ship to WWE.
William Regal's potential jump from AEW to WWE is enabled by a contract clause.
Bryan Alvarez has reported on Wrestling Observer Live that people within WWE believe that when Regal signed with AEW, he made an agreement that should Paul 'Triple H' Levesque return to power in Stamford, Regal would be able to return. Now, Triple H has returned to power - and Regal may be on his way back to WWE.
Regal has been with AEW since earlier this year, having debuted for the company at March's Revolution 2022 pay-per-view. Although it was recently reported that AEW only signed Regal for a year, this may not be the case, with William seemingly under a three-year deal. Such a Triple H-focused break clause existing would theoretically allow him to end this early.
On Thursday, Fightful Select reported that talent believe Regal's AEW deal may be up in December, confirming WWE's interest in bringing him back at the same time.
WWE's previous regime released Regal in January, ending a decades-long tenure with the promotion spanning multiple roles. Vince McMahon was forced to resign as Chairman and CEO in disgrace in July, with Nick Khan, Stephanie McMahon, and Levesque rising to power.
