Rebooking WWE Great American Bash 2005: 8 Ways To Make It Better

2. Rey Mysterio Vs. Eddie Guerrero - Steel Cage Match

The Eddie Guerrero versus Rey Mysterio rivalry dominated the Smackdown brand in 2005, lasting the entire summer. In total, Rey and Eddie clashed on four separate PPVs and countless times on television. Although it was marred somewhat by the whole Dominick storyline, it was still one of the feuds of the year. Keeping the Dominick/secret theme (that Eddie himself pushed for), their match at the Bash would be a steel cage match, a stipulation enforced by Smackdown GM Teddy Long to make sure that Eddie didn't harm Rey's kid, who would be at ringside. The cage would also provide the perfect setting for such an intensely personal rivalry. Eddie and Rey actually clashed in a cage when Smackdown switched stations in September. Why not bring that match forward a little? Another singles match is fine (their match was the best of the night at the 2005 Bash), but a cage adds an extra dimension and would, hopefully, increase audience excitement a little. Rey would win, following some drama with Dominick at ringside, allowing the feud to continue until SummerSlam.
