Rebooking WWE Unforgiven 1999 - 9 Ways To Make It Better

2. Chris Jericho Vs. The Rock

After a frustrating spell in WCW, Chris Jericho exploded onto the scene in the WWE by interrupting The Rock during The Great One's promo on the August 9th, 1999 Raw. The two had a very enteraining back-and-forth and then...nothing. Jericho quickly established himself as a midcard act and didn't square off with Rocky until the October 4th episode of Raw. It took them two whole months to book the match when, really, it should have been pencilled in for SummerSlam (where Rock wrestled Billy Gunn and Jericho wasn't even booked) or, at the latest, Unforgiven. If I was to rebook Unforgiven, I would definitely have the two go one-on-one. This is exactly the type of match that could have elevated Jericho to a main event player (instead of having to wait a year for it to happen). He was already over with the crowd and, against a top worker like Rock, he could have put on a blistering match that would have proved his backstage doubters (he had many) wrong. We know from their matches in later years that they have excellent chemistry with one another, so this one looks like a no-brainer.
