The former NXT Tag Team Champions almost got back together to face Imperium.

A SAnitY reunion was reportedly in WWE's plans for 2020, if Alexander Wolfe is to be believed.

Speaking on the Angle Podcast with Joey Karni, the man once again known as Axel Tischer spoke of WWE's plans to split him away from Imperium, and placing him back in SAnitY with, presumably, Eric Young, Killian Dain, and Nikki Cross. The switch was planned for last spring, before the ongoing global b*stard kicked in, leading to travel restrictions and Young's WWE release (h/t Fightful for the transcriptions):-

“The inside is that in spring of 2020 the plan was to split me off from Imperium and bring back SAnitY. Then the pandemic hit and EY (Eric Young) got released and travel restrictions started so no one could travel, no one could do anything. Then it was supposed to be SAnitY to do 6-man matches with Imperium, which would have been nice even if I wasn’t keen on the idea because I loved being a part of Imperium. It’s more me. I’m more of a pure wrestler than an actor.”

SAnitY first debuted in NXT on 12 October 2016, with IMPACT Wrestling's Madman Fulton originally in the place of Killian Dain. They held the NXT Tag Team Championships - Freebird Rule between Young, Wolfe, and Dain - for 102 days, besting the Authors of Pain for the straps in August 2017, and losing them that December to the Undisputed Era's Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly.

Alexander Wolfe was reported as being released from WWE on 19 May, alongside referee Drake Wuertz, Jessamyn Duke, and others, although his situation reportedly saw his contract set to expire without WWE renewing it, rather than a fully-fledged contract termination.

The former SAnitY and Imperium man officially becomes a free agent on Wednesday, 16 June.
