WWE's year of bloodletting continued yesterday, as Fightful reported that the market-leading promotion had released eight more wrestlers (including John Morrison, Tegan Nox, and the entire Hit Row stable), bringing its total number of wrestlers cut in 2021 to 79.

Jon Alba of AdFreeShows.com has since stated that the wrestlers let go by WWE on Thursday were informed of the company's decision between 8 PM and 9 PM ET that evening.

In addition, Alba states that some wrestlers were given an idea of what was about to happen when they were told that their weekend travel plans had been cancelled, which happened earlier in the day.

As well as tonight's episode of SmackDown in Hartford, Connecticut, WWE is due to run a house show in Syracuse, New York (Saturday) ahead of Sunday's Survivor Series 2021 pay-per-view in New York City.

This latest round of releases, as has often been the case in 2021, has been attributed to "budget cuts." Fightful's original report on the matter stated that WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis cited this as the reason in an internal email.
