Vince McMahon knows his WrestleMania 38 match with Pat McAfee was terrible.

This is according to Fightful Select, who report that the WWE Chairman and CEO and other people within the promotion enjoyed "plenty of laughs" about the maligned bout in the days following 'Mania. Vince himself recognises the contest's abysmal quality but doesn't necessarily care: as long as people were entertained, McMahon is fine with it.

Fightful also note that Vince had made the decision to compete at WrestleMania 38 a few months ago. Creative team members and people close to McMahon stressed that they thought this was a poor idea, but the boss pushed forward regardless.

The 76-year-old pulled off his shirt and jacket to face Pat McAfee following the former NFL punter's electric victory over McMahon protege Austin Theory. A bout consisting largely of Pat running into Vince's stationary clotheslines, interferences from Theory, and other poorly-executed contrivances played out, before McAfee was pinned after his employer meekly kicked a football into his gut.

'Stone Cold' Steve Austin hit the ring afterwards, hitting everybody in the ring with a Stunner - including Vince. Perhaps understandably, McMahon stumbled while taking that bump, which he also recognises was terrible.

WrestleMania 38 was Vince's first match since 2010, when he faced Bret Hart. His last physical angle was Kevin Owens blasting him with a headbutt on a 2017 episode of SmackDown.
