WWE officials are said to be high on NXT North American Champion Damian Priest.

This is according to Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer stated that Priest's recent TakeOver 31 bout with Johnny Gargano was intended to set him up for bigger things down the road, as the promotion sees a lot of potential in him and believed Gargano was the right guy to help him level up.

Officials are thought to be particularly enthusiastic about Priest's look, voice, and athleticism, with the promotion reportedly seeing him as a big-time star.

Damian successfully defended his North American Championship against Gargano at TakeOver 31 this past weekend. This was his second defence since taking the belt in a TakeOver XXX ladder match in August, with Timothy Thatcher his other fallen challenger.

Priest, 38, has been with WWE since October 2018, having previously worked as Punishment Martinez in Ring Of Honor, where he broke out. 2020 has been a particularly strong year for him in NXT, with his North American Championship victory coming on the back of a well-received performance in a defeat to Finn Balor at TakeOver: In Your House.
