Rey Fenix lands in WWE on Friday's SmackDown, but his creative may have already changed

It looks like WWE might have already abandoned plans for a potential feud between Andrade and Rey Fenix before it even made it to TV.

According to a report from WrestleVotes, a backstage segment involving SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis and Andrade was originally planned for the March 21st episode of SmackDown in Italy. In the cut segment, Aldis would inform Andrade that new talent was arriving on SmackDown and that he would be the first to work with them. While the segment never aired, it strongly suggested that WWE had initial plans for an Andrade vs. Rey Fenix program.

As they put it; "Don’t know for sure but I can go back to the SmackDown three weeks ago, the one from Italy...That segment got cut. It was not supposed to be on last week’s show so I don’t know where it stands. However, that would indicate to me that at least they had plans at the minimum for Andrade vs. Rey Fenix. We’ll see if that happens."

One of WWE’s most recent acquisitions from All Elite Wrestling, Fenix debut on SmackDown on Friday 4th April, as advertised on last week's show. The high-flying star signed with WWE after his AEW contract expired, but the company’s creative plans remain unclear for him beyond the commentators confirming that he was Penta's brother and that the two - for now - will be on different brands.

The key question now is whether WWE has scrapped the Andrade idea outright or are merely holding off for a later date. The pair had a singles match on the July 22nd 2022 Rampage and worked several multi-man efforts against one another during their respective runs with the challenger brand, and could draw on that history in WWE. The future plans for both could be more apparent after this Friday night.
