It's no secret that WWE have been desperately trying to replace Mysterio with another top-tier Mexican star for many years now. One of their most blatant attempts was the acquisition of the spectacular high-flier Mistico in early 2011. Renamed Sin Cara, he was pushed strongly on WWE TV but he had one or two shaky moments, to say the least.

One of the issues was that Cara had bypassed developmental and found it hard to work with those unfamiliar with his style. His matches often looked disjointed and sloppy and he earned a reputation botching. He also violated the company's Wellness Policy and suffered a serious knee injury at the 2011 Survivor Series.

Soon after he returned, WWE paired him up with the man they had hoped he would replace in a student/mentor kind of deal. They had exciting matches with The Prime Time Players, Primo & Epico, Rhodes Scholars and Team Hell No and came close to capturing the Tag Team titles.

Injuries and Sin Cara's issues with management would result in the team disbanding. They were good while they lasted, and Mysterio's presence and experience seemed to help Cara, giving him a structure and confidence. I'm sure WWE were happy with the sales of replica masks around this period, too!
