Rey Mysterio is your new WWE United States Champion.

The lucha legend scored Raw's secondary prize after defeating AJ Styles in singles competition last night, with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows interfering to try and cost him the bout, only for Randy Orton to show up as the equaliser, neutralising The OC's influence, and allowing Rey to hit the Frog Splash for the victory. A cathartic scene saw Rey and son Dominic celebrate afterwards.

This all came on the back of a big number one contenders' bout preceded by Mysterio, Orton, Ricochet, and Drew McIntyre all staking their claim for a shot at Styles' belt. Rey ended up winning that one with a cradled pin on Ricochet.

Mysterio's big US Title win came just 24 hours after he failed to capture Brock Lesnar's WWE Championship at Survivor Series 2019. That bout was a one-sided beatdown in which Rey was only granted a couple of hope spots following Dominic's interference, but a well-played set piece that was bags of fun to watch.

Whatever the case, this is a nice little consolation prize for Rey, who has been on one hell of a hot streak lately.
