Flair comes to WrestleMania X8 with something to prove.

A year after Vince McMahon’s acquisition of WCW, contract expiries meant that Ted Turner’s top talent could finally cross over to WWE, and ‘Mania 18 is full of former WCW performers.

Rock/Hogan steals the show, but Flair’s no holds barred clash with the Deadman is a strong showing from two veterans of the game. Undertaker works a strong heel programme here, brutalising Flair’s son to lure the Nature Boy back to active competition. ‘Taker’s WrestleMania streak wasn’t such a big deal at this time, and much of the crowd are actually clamouring for Flair to get the pin.

There’s bloodshed from early on, a great Undertaker sit up (while locked in the Figure Four), and a cameo from Four Horseman stablemate Arn Anderson, who hits the Deadman with a colossal spinebuster.

While the two legends could perhaps have put on a better clash earlier in their respective careers, the weight of history adds something to this highly entertaining match, one which Flair said was instrumental to him regaining confidence towards the end of his run as an active performer..
