2. The Rock vs. Steve Austin (WrestleMania 17)
wwe.comOf their three Mania encounters, the main event of 17 is considered to be the pinnacle between Rock and Austin. Taking place in The Texas Rattlesnakes home state, the hype and build for this match was amazing, with the promo video set to Limp Bizkits My Way still standing as one of the best the company has ever produced. If you can watch that and not be excited for the impending confrontation you have no pulse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srhd2fZyDB4 The match itself is nearly flawless, with the two foes battling it out in a No-DQ contest for the title, going to war for nearly a half hour. What no one saw coming, and makes this match even more memorable, was the shocking ending that saw the beloved Stone Cold turn heel and side with his hated arch-nemesis Mr. McMahon. It felt like turning the wrong guy at the wrong time, as fans basically revolted and refused to boo Austin, but it was a ballsy booking decision that showed the company was willing to take risks. The heel turn ultimately didnt work, and Stone Cold himself has said he regrets it, but not even that misstep can detract from this being such an outstanding match.
