5. The Rock vs. Triple H - Ladder Match (SummerSlam 1998)
WWE.comTheres always been a natural rivalry between The Rock and Hunter Hearst Helmsley. The two came into the company not all that far apart, both ascended to stardom around the same time, both possessed similar tools and they each ran a parallel course to the top that often featured them at each others throats. The fact that such a hotly contested match was fought over the Intercontinental title, in a ladder match no less, speaks volumes about how badly that title has been devalued in todays WWE. The Rock was the champion at the time, accompanied by Mark Henry, while challenger Triple H was joined by his valet/bodyguard/real-life love interest Chyna, the 8th wonder of chromosomal confusion. DX and The Nation of Domination had a pretty hot feud going at the time, highlighted by the classic skit where DX dressed up as the members of the Nation and mocked them. The bout was a hotly-contested affair, one of the better singles ladder matches weve seen, with copious amounts of interference from both mans second. As with most of the Attitude Era, there was a generous amount of overbooking involved, including flour in the eyes and crotchshots, but Triple H managed to climb the ladder and snag the IC championship in what is arguably the best encounter in their lengthy career-making feud.
