The Rock's 10 Best WWE Matches

4. The Rock vs. Chris Jericho (No Mercy 2001)

WWE.comWWE.comThis is another pair that had great chemistry dating back to Jericho€™s first appearance in the company in 1999, when Y2J debuted in WWE by interrupting a Rock promo that led to an entertaining verbal clash that fans still talk about, so it seemed a natural for them to revisit their rivalry a couple of years later. The match was set up via the ol€™ tried and true €œmiscommunication amongst tag team partners€ angle during a match where Rock and Jericho took on Shane McMahon and Rob Van Dam. Y2J then went on to defeat RVD on SmackDown to become the #1 contender for the WCW championship, earning a title shot at No Mercy. The bout kicked off with Rock immediately attempting a Rock Bottom that was reversed into the Walls of Jericho, and set the tone for the high impact performance that also saw Chris take a Rock Bottom on the Spanish announce table. They also employed liberal use of the finisher-trading style, as Jericho landed his own Rock Bottom as well as attempting a People€™s Elbow. Interference from Stephanie McMahon caused a distraction for both men, as The Ayatollah of Rock n€™ Rolla began chasing her from ringside, and when Rock grabbed Stephanie for a Rock Bottom, Jericho took advantage of his attention being elsewhere and hit Rock with the Breakdown onto the chair McMahon had thrown in the ring, winning the match and the WCW belt.
