2. Vs. AJ Styles (Extreme Rules 2016)
After the screwy finish(es) to their match at Payback, Roman Reigns and AJ Styles were given another match against each other under Extreme Rules at the aptly-named Extreme Rules PPV.
With their match at Payback being so good, expectations were high as to whether or not these two could top it. They did, and then some. This match was basically a cocktail of what makes the best Roman Reigns matches so good: a heated crowd, a more agile opponent leading things, chaotic brawling, insane weapons spots, and dazzling athleticism. Reigns and Styles showed off their incredible chemistry in a match that basically cemented AJ as a top guy despite his loss to Reigns.
The match was so good that it somehow wasn't overshadowed by the post-match angle, wherein Seth Rollins returned after healing a knee injury. People were still throwing out praise for Styles' and Reigns' performance.
Due to the brand split, AJ Styles and Roman Reigns have been kept apart for years now. It's our hope that Joe can recover from his illness and one day have that third match with the man that brought so much out of him.
