So you have two talented superstars who are IRL married and both of them work for your company? It must seem like a no-brainer to team them up for promo battles and mixed tags. Sadly it doesn’t always go to plan. “The Grit Couple” might have a wonderful marriage but on-screen they have the sort of anti-chemistry not seen since Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins were teaming together.

Which is not to suggest there isn’t a place for Beth Phoenix as an in-ring talent for WWE. “The Glamazon” was a performer ahead of her time, a wrestler in an era of divas. Beth pursued wrestling from an early age but you’d struggle to find many of her divas division peers who also had a solid background in amateur wrestling. She must sometimes wish she was born a decade later, mixing it up with Paige, the Four Horsewomen and others.

Over the last few years Phoenix has returned for a small handful of matches. If she decides she still has something to offer, she deserves the opportunity to go up against some of the best talent women’s wrestling has ever seen. Who fits that description better than Ronda Rousey.
