Will WWE be leaving the forbidden door ajar after this past weekend’s Royal Rumble? Possibly not but then again, no one would have predicted WWE working with Impact at all a few years back. We live in a changing wrestling landscape where anything is possible, so let’s dare to dream.
Mickie James has faced Ronda Rousey before, but that feels like a lifetime ago. Back then she was best friend to Alexa Bliss, with Bliss very much presented as the star. Think of James as a proto Lily.
Now? Mickie is riding high as Impact Knockouts Champion. She’s also back working her Hardcore Country gimmick that's much closer to her real life personality than anything she was allowed to do in WWE. This rematch would be as good as a first time meeting with this revitalised performer.
Rousey’s last run was defined by her vice-like grip on the Raw Women’s Championship, and you have to suspect that Vinnie Mac will be putting a belt back on her this time around, at least at some point. If so, they have the chance to present a really entertaining Champion Vs Champion match with Rousey vs. James.
