Rusev To Defend US Title Against Roman Reigns At WWE Clash Of Champions 2016
Will "The Guy" finally dethrone the champion?
Monday's Raw opened up with the news that three-time WWE World Champion Roman Reigns would take on Rusev at Sunday's Clash of Champions event, with the United States Championship on the line.
On last week's show, Rusev cost Reigns a match with WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens, meaning that Reigns wouldn't get a chance to compete for the title at the Pay-Per-View. This week, Reigns kicked off the show by demanding "The Bulgarian Brute" meet him in the ring, but he was instead met by Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon. Foley announced that Rusev was scheduled to meet Seth Rollins on Raw, but Reigns could take him on in a title match at Sunday's Raw-branded PPV.
Reigns and Rusev have been feuding for nearly two months, ever since "The Guy" interrupted the U.S. Champion during an anti-USA promo. Reigns would go on to interrupted Rusev's wedding ceremony, then beat him up so badly at SummerSlam that a planned bout between the two had to be cancelled.
Rusev won the United States Championship from Kalisto at Extreme Rules, while Roman Reigns has been out of Raw's main event scene since a Wellness Policy suspension and subsequent loss to Dean Ambrose early in the summer.
Clash of Champions airs live on the WWE Network this Sunday at 8:00 PM ET.
