WWE Crown Jewel 2021 goes down in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday 21 October, and while the promotion has only announced a single match for the show so far, a number of key programs are coming together.

Dave Meltzer reported on the latest edition Wrestling Observer Radio that Seth Rollins vs. Edge and Goldberg vs. Bobby Lashley are currently planned. They will join the announced Universal Title match pitting Roman Reigns against Brock Lesnar on the card.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported previously that Goldberg's return on this week's episode of Raw was step one in building towards the WCW legend vs. Lashley at Crown Jewel. The feud is currently centred around Goldberg's son, Gage, who ended SummerSlam 2021 woozy from Bobby's Hurt Lock after jumping into the ring to defend his dad following a loss to the then-WWE Champion.

Edge, meanwhile, is due to return to SmackDown this week. The veteran has been away from WWE television since 10 September, when the promotion put over that he'd suffered a neck injury in a SummerSlam 2021 rematch with Rollins.

Crown Jewel 2021 will be WWE's first Saudi Arabian show since February 2020. COVID-19 related restrictions have prevented the promotion from fulfilling its controversial agreement with the Saudi General Sport Authority, which calls for two money-spinning pay-per-views there each year.

The deal, which is worth around $50 million per event, has drawn considerable flak towards WWE, given the Saudi regime's brutal reputation.
