Sting: 9 Memorable WCW World Title Matches You Need To See
7. Sting Vs. Macho Man Randy Savage - Spring Stampede 1998
In 1998 at WCW Spring Stampede, Sting defended the WCW Championship against the nWo's Macho Man Randy Savage in a No Disqualification match. Sting had regained the vacant championship in February with Savage's help, which ended up being the genesis for the nWo split.
During this time, and pretty much any other that I can remember, Savage was being hailed as pro wrestling's most intense competitor, and the No DQ match was tailor made for him.
Sting and Savage beat each other mercilessly, up and down the aisle, and even slammed each other on bales of hay, which was there as part of the Spring Stampede gimmick.
Being a late 90's WCW match, chicanery was due to ensue. The first of which, was a totally unnecessary ref bump due to the No DQ stipulation in effect for this match, and Liz blasting Sting with a steel chair the wrong way, which got her an accidental Stinger Splash.
Following that, Hulk Hogan appeared, and pushed Savage off the top rope to stop his flying elbow, which was answered by Kevin Nash Power bombing Sting to screw him out of the championship. Unfortunately for Sting, he was caught in the crossfire of the nWo imploding, and it cost him the championship.
