Sting: 9 Memorable WCW World Title Matches You Need To See
8. Sting Vs. Sid Vicious - Halloween Havoc 1990
A few months into Sting's first reign as WCW Champion, he headed into Halloween Havoc 1990 riding a wave of momentum to face off against The Four Horsemen's Sid Vicious.
As a heel, Sid was placed on this earth to oppose electric babyface champions, as evidenced by his future showdowns with Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan. At 6'9 and 330 lbs, he was the heavy favorite to defeat Sting, who he outweighed by 75 lbs.
As to be expected, it was a traditional big man vs smaller man contest, with plenty of selling on Sting's end, and posturing on Sid's side. This match is worth seeing alone for Sting's crossbody over the top rope from the stage entrance.
As the match progressed, Sid and Sting began brawling on the outside of the ring as the announcers wondered why Sid wouldn't want to beat Sting inside the ring, when suddenly The Horsemen appeared.
When Sid and Sting re-appeared, "Sting" looked about 15-20 lbs heavier and was instantly pinned after a bogus bodyslam attempt. The bogus Sting was Barry Windham. However, Sid's celebration was short-lived when the real Sting emerged with a rope tied around his arm.
As balloons hilariously fell from the ceiling, Sting blasted Sid with the championship belt, IN PLAIN VIEW OF THE REFEREE, and rolled him up in a small package to retain the championship.
