Sting: 9 Memorable WCW World Title Matches You Need To See
6. Sting Vs. The Giant - Slamboree 1996
By 1996, Sting was a former five-time WCW Champion, and had finally ditched the blond hair. Even though the now dark haired Sting held the WCW Tag Team Championship with Lex Luger, Sting recieved a world title match at Slamboree when he met The Giant.
For those unfamiliar, 20 Years ago The Giant (Big Show) was in the midst of one of pro wrestling's finest rookie years ever. His athleticism was unheard of for a man his size. During this match, he was regularly throwing dropkicks like he was Randy Orton.
For just over 10 minutes, Sting and The Giant wrestled like much smaller men, and put forth a perfectly good main event for the time period. However, the story would shift to Sting's partner Lex Luger, who was handcuffed to Jimmy Hart.
Although he was Sting's teammate, Luger remained a heel which made for an interesting dynamic. During a struggle on the apron, Luger grabbed Hart's megaphone, and the subsequent swing caused Lex to blast Sting in the face while The Giant was locked in the Scorpion Deathlock.
Dusty Rhodes immediately began building the conspiracy against Luger, while The Giant choke-slammed Sting for the win.
