9. The Character Dynamics Work
WWE.comThe benefit of Lesnar destroying Sting would be felt in several ways. Firstly, it takes a relatively unknown wrestler in Sting (to WWE's modern mainstream audience at least), and instantly creates relevancy for his character. It would get people to care for him. The creative dynamics work - the old babyface being upended by the aggressive younger heel. It's a classic WWE storyline, the disrespectful heel versus the veteran legend. This could just play out in angles, or pay off in an actual match, either way WWE will have instilled a compelling narrative that fans can invest in. It is a proven formula, just take a look at the heel heat Randy Orton got when he spat in Harley Race's face, or when he battered Mick Foley down Madison Square Garden's stairs in 2004. Those angles pretty much made Randy's career. Sting is in the perfect spot to do the same honours and Lesnar is the monster heel machine that WWE happen to be building right now.
