Sting To WWE: 10 Reasons His Deal Is A Mistake For All Involved

9. The Cost To WWE

On WWE's part, the Sting deal could be a financial mistake. Let's face it, he isn't going to come cheap. The actual value of his name is also quite a bit of a gamble, can Vince really make money by selling a act from 1997 to kids who weren't even alive until after WCW went bust? Like it or not, the important WWE fans are the casual / younger audience. If Sting was to come in with a lucrative part time deal and failed to really spike ratings or merchandise sales then we would have to judge his WWE debut as a business mistake. You can't use someone based on sentiment, every single man must prove his worth. Sting's cost has to be analysed and then demonstrated on how it would make money. Spending is already significantly up across the company, do WWE really need another part time expenditure on the books? Why not invest that money in something which is actually going to have a future in the business? Vince McMahon may be about to pay a lot of cash for an act which isn't going to bring much profit back in.
