SummerSlam By The Numbers WWE DON'T Want You To Remember
5. 7
The Nexodus was complete at SummerSlam 2010, as seven careers were effectively brought to an abrupt halt courtesy of a big FU from John Cena.
That was probably the plan all along. Although fans were cloying for new stars of any sort, Nexus were positioned by WWE as an invading menace, in the expectation their loyal universe would cheer on the besieged heroes of the main roster. The opposite happened: the defending forces were inadvertently cast as the heels in their own company.
The purpose was never to create a clutch of prospects into viable long-term draws, then, but to set up a series of hurdles for the establishment to overcome. The two teams traded falls in SummerSlam 2010's 14-man main event, before Cena literally bounced to his feet following a DDT onto exposed concrete, and single-handedly ended the Nexus as a going concern within three minutes. Ten years later, not only are none of the yellow-and-black upstarts stars of WWE, but they aren't even employed by the company.
