The Disturbing Truth Behind WWE's Backstage Talent Crisis
A recent report in Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that WWE have switched gears, and are now listening to their audience because they don't want to be seen as "the bad guy promotion."
A few days after this came out, WWE decided, out of spite, to add six months to wantaway star Luke Harper's contract. One week later, they added two to Dash Wilder's deal. They're able to do this to their "independent contractors" due to terms that wouldn't exist if WWE hadn't been sitting in an indomitable market position that allows them to get away with anything they want since WCW's death in 2001.
Other recent controversies include the ongoing Sasha Banks situation, with 'The Boss' still no closer to returning to television after trying to quit over WrestleMania 35 weekend. Dean Ambrose has walked out of the door when his long-held frustration towards his creative direction boiled over. Elsewhere, guys like Tye Dillinger and TJP have departed for similar reasons, and Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows could find themselves in limbo after turning down multi-million dollar contract extensions.
This isn't the happy, harmonious locker-room WWE purport it to be. How can it be, with so many wrestlers showing public discontent as they try to work their way out of what should be the most lucrative gig in the game?
