The Greatest Match From Every WWE SummerSlam Ever
7. 2013 - John Cena Vs. Daniel Bryan
This may be the hardest choice of all, because CM Punk and Brock Lesnar’s bruising epic is one of the great SummerSlam matches. Cena and Bryan’s headliner, though, has all that and a huge dose of emotion to make it the worthy main event.
Bryan was nearing the peak of his ascendency here, and the indie darling vs. the face of WWE was the perfect match. The two bring out the best in each other, with Cena trying to overpower his smaller foe, but Bryan’s technical brilliance and heart keeping Big Match John on his toes.
The moment Bryan gets the win is glorious - no funny business, he just outwrestles Cena on the night. It’s undercut, of course, by guest referee Triple H nailing the new champ with the Pedigree, allowing Money In The Bank holder Randy Orton to cash in and end Bryan’s reign as soon as it started.
It was frustrating at the time, but of course led to the incredible climax of WrestleMania XXX. Taken on its own, this is one of the great WWE matches of either man’s career.
