The Greatest Match From Every WWE SummerSlam Ever
6. 2014 - Seth Rollins Vs. Dean Ambrose
The Shield is one of the few truly great achievements of modern WWE. The organisation created a dominant faction with the intention of creating three bonafide main eventers, and they achieved exactly that. When The Shield split, fans wanted nothing more than to see the treacherous Seth Rollins against the unstable Dean Ambrose, and at SummerSlam they got exactly that.
A lumberjack match (with the ring surrounded by superstars The Shield had wronged, in a nice touch) between two bitter rivals was never going to generate slick wrestling, but that wasn’t what the event called for. This was a blood feud, with Rollins and Ambrose tearing strips off each other from the opening bell.
It’s chaos, basically, and only gets crazier as they spill into the crowd. Rollins tries to flee, the lumberjacks carry him back to the ring, and Ambrose turns it up a notch with a colossal plunge into the mass of wrestlers.
The bout ends with heel shenanigans and a cheap win for Rollins after bashing Ambrose with a briefcase, but the match sets Dean up as a totally distinct character, capable of anything. Job done.
