The Greatest Match From Every WWE SummerSlam Ever
5. 2015 - Seth Rollins Vs. John Cena
Let’s get the finish out of the way quickly: having Jon Stewart insert himself into the ending of the match and deliver a (dreadful!) chair shot to Cena was a huge mistake. It was a poorly thought out gimmick that serves only to cheapen the title vs. title match.
It can only cheapen it so much, though, because this is otherwise a superb bout. Cena’s US and Rollins’ World Heavyweight belts are on the line, and the young gun, WWE’s heir apparent, brings the absolute best out of the veteran.
Cena is always at his best against faster, hungrier opponents, and he pulls out all the stops here. He and Rollins perform at a breathless pace throughout and only escalate the tempo as it goes on, with breathtaking counters and engrossing near falls bell to bell.
The two would have great clashes before and after, but this is their only one-on-one with a stage of this size, and they rise to the occasion with gusto. While Rollins has continued to be a stellar performer, it’s a crying shame he caught his injury not long after this - he was going nowhere but up, through sheer force of talent.
