5. Harley Race

The legendary Harley Race only had a three-year run with the World Wrestling Federation, but much like the Brain Busters it was short but sweet. Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan was at his side the entire time, and Race quickly became the second ever King of the Ring in 1986.

Race feuded with Hulk Hogan in 1987, as Heenan intensified his efforts to rid the world of that damn Hulkamania. The King also feuded with Junkyard Dog and 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan, further confirming my fears that Duggan was a bigger star than I give him credit for.

Race suffered an abdominal injury in 1988 that would become serious, and he would take an extended break because of it. Haku became king in his absence, and the Handsome one was unable to regain his crown upon his return.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
