Unless you want to go all the way back to 'Cowboy' Chris Jericho, Lionheart (or Corazón de León) represents the first true wrestling identity that Jericho had. It brought him huge amounts of success in Mexico and in CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre) in particular, where Lion Heart had an 11-month reign as NWA World Middleweight Champion, a title held by Mistico and The Great Sasuke among others.

It was as Lionheart that Jericho made his first real impression on professional wrestling in North America, quickly establishing himself as a top competitor in ECW. Whilst with the company he won the ECW Television Championship, but just one year after arriving Lionheart was off to WCW.

In WCW Jericho as Lionheart was as vanilla a babyface as one can imagine, and it was this bland character that initially caused Jericho frustration within the company. Luckily for Jericho (and us as a whole), a heel turn eventually came.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
