The Many Faces Of CM Punk Ranked - From Worst To Best

4. A Respect Obsessed Heel

CM Punk has fought for championships, briefcases, contracts, and a whole lot more in his professional wrestling career, but the overriding feeling is that his career has also been one long fight for respect. Despite being a multi-time champion and beloved star, Punk was never truly respected, and it was this that led to that infamous promo.

One summer later Punk had been WWE Champion for longer than anyone in recent memory, but the respect still wasn't forthcoming. His title matches were relegated to semi main-event status so that John Cena and John Laurinaitis of all people could headline PPVs. Punk turned heel that summer by attacking The Rock, but as with his initial turn on Jeff Hardy years prior, you could argue that his actions were more than justified.

Punk somehow managed to get the WWE Universe to hate him once again, no mean feat when you consider one year prior he was the single hottest guy in the entire business. His head was shaved (Punk's haircuts are one of the most underrated aspects of his character), and whilst his promos didn't change too much they were tweaked ever so slightly for the finger of blame to move from the company to the fans.

It was almost as if the true CM Punk was finally in front of the cameras.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
